چکیده

The RD24 project has designed SCI node interface hardware and software to test the applicability of SCI to Data Acquisition Systems. The results demonstrate working SCI protocols, very high bandwidth and scalability. First samples of the SCI NodeChipTM ASIC were delivered to CERN in March 1993. Interconnected via SCI cables, two nodes were used to form a simple SCI ringlet. First SCI traffic, at 500 MB/s link speed, was observed on 16.4.93 at CERN. Using a diagnostic hardware and software set for SCI, we have verified the correctness of SCI packets and protocols. RD24 has designed and completed: a RISC processor node with FiFo interface and a combined memory/ DMA node. Work continues on an SCI-Futurebus+ interface, a TURBOchannel interface, an Apple Quadra interface, an SCI to Fastbus interface and a bridge to transmit SCI over coaxial cables or optical fibers. SCI-based architectures have been simulated. The results predict feasibility of a scalable SCI event builder, based on SCI switches with simulated throughput up to 40 GBytes/s.

First Experience with the Scalable Coherent Interface

The research project RD24 [11] is studying applications of the Scalable Coherent Interface (IEEE-1596) standard for the large hadron collider (LHC). First SCI node chips from Dolphin were used to demonstrate the use and functioning of SCI’s packet protocols and to measure data rates. We present results from a first, two-node SCI ringlet at CERN, based on a R3000 RISC processor node and DMA node...

Data acquisition with the SCINET, a scalable-coherent-interface network

The goal of the SCINET project is to investigate the applicability of the scalable-coherent-interface (SCI) for data-acquisition systems in large-scale fusion-reactor experiments. SCI is a standardized, high-speed interconnect for peripheral devices, processors, memories, PCs and workstations that provides for a distributed shared memory with optional cache coherence between computing nodes. Up...

Cross-linguistic Influence at Syntax-pragmatics Interface: A Case of OPC in Persian

Recent research in the area of Second Language Acquisition has proposed that bilinguals and L2 learners show syntactic indeterminacy when syntactic properties interface with other cognitive domains. Most of the research in this area has focused on the pragmatic use of syntactic properties while the investigation of compliance with a grammatical rule at syntax-related interfaces has not received...

SCI Rings, Switches, and Networks for Data Acquisition Systems

In plasma-physical fusion devices, the ionized hydrogen isotopes Deuterium and Tritium are fusing to helium ions, provided that they can be kept long enough and dense enough at very high temperatures (typically 1 million degrees), thereby delivering energy according to the equation E = (mDeuterium/Tritium − mHelium) × c2. To control the plasma confinement and to get information about its physic...

The Cathode Strip Chamber Data Acquisition System for CMS

The Cathode Strip Chamber (CSC) [1] Data Acquisition (DAQ) system for the CMS [2] experiment at the LHC [3] will be described. The CSC system is large, consisting of 218K cathode channels and 183K anode channels. This leads to a substantial data rate of ~1.5GByte/s at LHC design luminosity (10cms) and the CMS first level trigger (L1A) rate of 100KHz. The DAQ system consists of three parts. The ...
